New Delhi, Dec 15: Senior BJP Member Jaswant Singh, who represents the Hill area of Darjeeling in West Bengal, today expressed concern in the Lok Sabha that 150 mt of the Railway line which had been declared a world heritage had been destroyed in the recent earthquake but no work had been started to restore the line.
Raising the issue during Question Hour, Mr Singh wanted to know what steps the Government was taking to save this public asset.
Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi replied to him that the Government also wanted to restore the line, and now that things in the region were becoming normal after the installation of the new government in the state, work on the line would be taken up soon.
''Darjeeling is also close to everybody's heart,'' he said adding that there were now plans to start the toy train which was also a heritage object, from foothills. (UNI)
