Darjeeling's tourism sector booming after earthquake hit Sikkim

SME News, Monday, Nov 14, 2011 13:38:05 PM IST

DARJEELING: The tourism sector is booming and flourishing here after a strong earthquake had hit the neighbouring Sikkim. The tour operators are likely to witness rise in tourist inflow to North Bengal since the tourists are afraid to visit Sikkim.

Darjeeling has got numerous landscape and spectacular beauty to see. The tourist destinations are cheap and affordable not only for the locals, but also for the people across the globe.

Tourism in Darjeeling accounts for significant revenues for the state tourism industry. It has been severely affected since 2008 when the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) revived a violent stir in support of developing a separate state of Gorkhaland.

The global hill resorts are hoping to get back to its old days after the signing of a peace agreement in July in this year.
