Kolkata, Sep 12 (IANS) The UK India Business Council (UKIBC) is in talks with Mahindra and Mahindra, Hero, Mittal group of companies and Kolkata-headquartered Globsyn among others to provide skill building solutions to them by enhancing productivity of their employees.
A delegation of around 59 skills providers, led by the UKIBC, Monday visited Kolkata to explore business opportunities and find partners in West Bengal.
This was the largest ever business delegation from Britain to visit the city.
The delegation, which brings in a range of skills and education providers, including A4e, City of Westminster College, Tribal, Edexcel, City & Guilds and Hull College, is visiting India this week.
The delegates along with the senior government representatives and skill providers participated in an interactive seminar which was jointly organised by the UKIBC and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) along with the British Council.
‘We began our tour from Kolkata as eastern India provides exciting opportunities to further strengthen India-UK cooperation in skills and education sector,’ Roy Newey, group board director, A4e and also the delegation head, told reporters here.
The UKIBC was in talks with Mahindra and Mahindra, Hero, Mittal group of companies and Globsyn among others to provide skill building solutions to them, he said.
The UKIBC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FICCI to work together to support the state government and local industries to expand manpower capacity in order to ensure long-term and sustainable economic growth.
Some of the sectors UKIBC has identified to train workforce in the state are media and entertainment, healthcare, food and processing, manufacturing, retail, construction and travel and tourism, Newey said.
The state government has awarded an expression of interest to the IL&FS Skill Development Corporation for enhancing skill of students who opted for vocational training.
‘IL&FS will start imparting skills to a group of students in Kalimpong (Darjeeling district) on retail and IT. They will be trained for 100 percent job placement,’ said state Technical Education Secretary Manoj Agarwal.
IL&FS Education & Technology Services vice president Shourie Chatterji said the company will start the training in retail, hospitality, BPO and data processing in next 60 days.
The state government will also set up multi-skill centres across the state in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation.
The target is to impart skill training to 30 million people by 2022.
