Darjeeling: Conservancy and water supply in this famed hill town is likely to be hit by next week with the Darjeeling Municipality Workers' Union giving a three-four day ultimatum to the administration for meeting their wage-related demand.
"If the administration continues dilly-dallying with our demand we would be forced to close down the conservancy and water works departments in the next few days," union President Allen Chhetri said.
Chhetri alleged there had been no response from the district authorities regarding the demands though the employees were suffering for long.
In another development, the union affiliated office staff of the civic body, went on a pen down strike from August 20 in protest against the shifting of property tax office from the municipality premises to a faraway' bank compound by the administration without consulting the union.
Asserting both issues would be resolved soon, a district official said, the Principal Secretary of Municipal Affairs department had already been informed about the demands and there would be headway.
